Will TeamCalendar work with our Microsoft Exchange 2007 server?
Yes, the current version (v. 2.05) delivers support for Microsoft Exchange 2007.

What are the requirements for TeamCalendar?

1. A supported Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device.

2. An active Internet connection from the device.

3. The Microsoft Exchange Server needs to run at least version 2003 with SP2 installed.

4. Outlook Web Access (OWA) must be enabled on the Microsoft Exchange Server AND must be accessible from the public Internet.   

What devices does TeamCalendar support?

TeamCalendar runs on both Pocket PC and SmartPhone using Windows Mobile 5 or 6.

Which localized mailboxes are supported

You can test if your colleague uses a supported language for his calendar folder by one of the following methods:

1) Ask your colleague what the name of his calendar folder is. In a English setup the calendar folder would be named Calendar, but in a Danish setup the name would be Kalender.

2) See if you can access his calendar directly from OWA (Outlook Web Access) using an URL constructed in the following way:

     https://mailserver.yourdomain.domain/exchange/colleagues-username/calendar.

Do I need special permissions to view my colleagues’ calendars?

If you have been granted reviewer rights (or better) on other calendars, you will be able to synchronize calendar information from a person's calendar.

Will TeamCalendar compromise our company’s Exchange security?

No. The whole idea of TeamCalendar is that it does not compromise the existing security in the company's Exchange setup, as it is communicating with the Exchange Server using OWA via HTTP/HTTPS and does not store any sensitive data along the way from Exchange to the mobile client.

The security is based completely on Exchange's and Active Directory's existing security models. The credentials provided by the mobile user determine his rights against calendars in the Exchange Server the exact same way as when using Outlook or OWA.

What do I need to install on my Exchange server?

Nothing. No installation or configuration changes are required on the Exchange server, as long as the pre-requisites listed above is met.

What is the function of the Gateway?

The purpose of the gateway is among other things to improve the experience for low bandwidth conditions. It improves performance by ensuring that only changes are sent to the client and that all data is compressed between the clients and the gateway.

Only thing required by the mobile client is an internet connection that can reach the TeamCalendar Gateway server. TheTeamCalendar Gateway acts as a completely transparent communication interface between the mobile client and the Exchange server.

Is the communication to the Gateway encrypted?

Yes. All communication between the mobile client and the Gateway is encrypted using industry standard HTTPS/SSL encryption.

What information is stored in the TeamCalendar Gateway?

No sensitive information is stored on the Gateway. Only timestamps and anonymous identifiers are stored. This information is used to optimize synchronization so only changes are synchronized and bandwidth usage and performance are optimized.

Will I need my own TeamCalendar Gateway?

Probably not. Only if want to be in total control of the Gateway server or your mobile clients can not connect to the public internet. If your Exchange server is not exposed directly on the internet, but requires some kind of client certificate, VPN authentication or your mobile clients are on a closed company network (e.g. MPLS).

Such a configuration would either prevent the TeamCalendar Gateway from querying your Exchange Server, or prevent the clients from connecting to the Gateway. In that case, it will be necessary to setup your own Gateway server. Please contact the sales@handstep.com for further information.
